With that, the Hollywood apologists came out like a swarm of flying worms.
Below is an excerpt from the actual discussion forum we posted hoping for some serious and constructive diaglog. Unfortunately much of what we received, in the early days, was name-calling and tantrums.
Nevertheless, in fairness to "Hollywood," the below puerile comments mostly came from a small handful of writers that hang out on the misc.writing.screenplay Newsgroup and who posted the below comments at the FIRM Discussion Forum found via http://www.homevideo.net/FIRM/guide.htm. If someone says these guys are representative of Hollywood, they may or may not be correct. More than likely, these are just some more of Hollywood's casualties: smart guys and gals that, being excluded from the industry for the most part, have nothing to do except occasion the Internet to pass the time. Sad, but Hollywood. Only the titles of the comments are listed below, as suffice it to say, they had nothing intelligent to relate, a condition that comes from having to twist their minds into formula-thinking for the studios for too long. You may have noticed in scanning through all of the above that these guys have a lot of Nazi stuff on their brains. Unfortunately, Nazi-type material, and its spin-offs of the general violence which pervades the movies, are much of what Hollywood is all about today. An industry produces what it's interested in, and Hollywood seems to be interested in, and dramatizing violence.
The frequency of the very subject, not only in movies that make it to the screen, but as illustrated by this little budding crop of would-be Hollywood Screenwriters itself, is a testament to this supposition. Further, this fixation on violence and Nazi-type stuff is indication that the top brass of Hollywood is continuing to dramatize (by greenlighting the Industry's negative output), past events of history that, though should never be forgotten, ARE yet past events, events we as a world are trying put behind us as a terrible chapter in history, yet a chapter we will learn from.
By continuing to subject the world to violence and Holocaust-type events in omnipresent movies, Hollywood is not allowing Human beings the dignity to rise to greater heights - but instead it is continuing to slap the world on the other cheek.
